Sihanoukville & Koh Rong

DSC_0179 - Version 2

Hello from Kampong Cham! Kevin and I have just managed to sneak away from Chiro village to enjoy some electricity, internet, cold drinks, and Western food for the first time in 4 days!

In reality, the people we’re staying with are amazing and would have driven us to Kampong Cham, the lovely provincial capital about 10km away, anytime we wanted. We’ve been really enjoying ourselves, though, and haven’t wanted or needed to inconvenience them for a ride. Today we will stock up on snacks and get our internet fix as we’ve decided to prolong our stay until next Saturday, and will probably only come into town a time or two more until then. I can’t wait to write about this adventure we’ve been on and all we’ve learned in just 4 days, but first I will wrap up our time in southern Cambodia, where we indulged a bit before we started roughing it in the village. :)

Kampot

Wah! We’re moving so fast these days and internet is so spotty, I’m struggling to keep up with my blog! I literally just threw up a post about Phnom Penh a few hours ago, so check it out! Now, onto Friday the 10th, which we spent in Kampot.

Phnom Penh

After enduring about 36 hours on our almost comically bad Mekong Delta tour, Kev and I were so relieved when we were finally set free in Phnom Penh on Tuesday afternoon. Our bus driver refused to drop us off at the prearranged location, insisting instead on trying to pawn us off on hotels that pay drivers commission for bringing in guests. Eventually we realized that we weren’t far from where we had planned to meet our couchsurfing host anyway and decided to make a run for it.

Mekong Delta Tour

DSC_0154 - Version 2

Last post in Vietnam, here we go!

I told y’all last time about the busy week we had in Saigon trying to get our bike sold and get out of the country before our visas expired. By the time we had our plans together and were ready to go we only had 2 days get out of Vietnam. We wanted to see some of the Mekong Delta (wish we could have had more time, but we spent it all up north) but didn’t have the time or the patience to try and plan out a 2 day trip for ourselves. So, we went to a few places around town to see what kind of tour deals we could find.

Ho Chi Minh City

DSC_0173 - Version 2

Wow, this has been an exhausting few days. We arrived in Ho Chi Minh City last Tuesday after a brutal last day on the bike. For the next few days we tried to fit in some sightseeing and other fun activities, but our main focus was on getting rid of the bike and planning the next leg of our trip. It was stressful. We were counting down the days left on our visa as person after person passed on our bike. Kevin probably showed 7 people the bike without getting an offer. He was busy running around putting up flyers, getting maintenance done, and answering emails from potential buyers. I was trying to plan out the next few weeks without knowing when we would get it sold and be able to leave. Not to mention, we had just totally switched our plans and decided to head to Cambodia only a few days before when we received acceptance letters from Taiwan. It was an intense few days.

Hello, all! As of yesterday we have officially arrived in Ho Chi Minh City, and thus successfully completed our motorbike journey! I’m feeling so ecstatic that we made it alive, without any serious injuries, without crashing into anyone else, without even a speeding ticket. This journey has been challenging at times, but completing our goal makes me feel accomplished and relieved, and like we can really do whatever we set our minds to. We’re now scrambling to sell our bike and get out of the country before our visas expire.

Nha Trang

DSC_0050 - Version 2

Nha Trang is a Southern Vietnamese city flanked by stretches of beautiful beach and mountain scenery. Tales of the Nha Trang party scene can be heard in dormitory rooms all the way up and down the coast. Kevin and I were dreaming of cocktails and relaxation weeks out, but when the time came near we were both already WAY sun burnt and in daylight avoidance mode. Bummer.

Hoi An & the Sunburn from Hell

DSC_0448 - Version 2

Hello, all. It’s been forever since I’ve posted since Kevin has been doing a fab job of documenting our time in Central Vietnam. I will quickly write about the lovely Hoi An, where we accidentally got stuck for a full week… which has sent the rest of our trip into a complete tailspin. Whoops.
