Northern Vietnam Loop Days 5-8: Sapa

DSC_0049 - Version 2

Ahh, I feel so refreshed after a few days of relaxing in Sapa eating comfort food.. and not getting on the bike. :)

We arrived in Sapa on Monday after a surprisingly short ride from Tan Uyen (yay!). We headed directly to Green Valley Hotel where we had booked beds in advance at $4 a night! This insanely good deal on accommodation was part of the reason why we stayed in Sapa for a full 3 days.

Northern Vietnam Loop Days 3-5: Nghia Lo, Tan Uyen, Sapa

Good morning, all! I’m writing to you in high spirits from the gorgeous balcony of our hostel in Sapa overlooking the Hoang Lien Son mountains of northern Vietnam. Sapa may be the most touristy place we’ve been to since Lijiang, but for good reason– it’s a quaint little town in a picturesque location in the misty hills. I’m totally looking forward to relaxing for a few days after hauling ass the last 3 to get here in such good time!

Northern Vietnam Loop Days 1 & 2: Mai Chau

DSC_0114 - Version 2

Hey, y’all. I’m absolutely exhausted from 9 hours on the bike today but I want to throw up a quick post so I don’t get behind and end up writing an essay a few days down the road.

Thursday morning we were getting pretty antsy about getting Kevin’s Brazilian passport and leaving Hanoi because we’d been there almost a week and were really ready to hit the road. Kev called the office and they told him they needed another day, so we spent the morning sulking around the hostel being annoyed at how much time we were losing. Don’t get me wrong, we enjoyed Hanoi a lot, but after 2 weeks of being on our trip all we had done was sit around in Kunming for a week and then sit around in Hanoi. We had already purchased our bike and wanted to use it to get away from the hoards of tourists and get off the beaten path a bit.

Hanoi

Oh. My. Gosh. This trip is off to such a slow start!

After weeks of trying to get here, it now seems like we just can’t get out of Hanoi. Not to worry, though- Hanoi is a really cool place and spirits are much higher since our bumpy first week in Kunming.

Last Stop in China: Kunming

DSC_0182 - Version 2

Hello from Vietnam! Kev and I have finally, FINALLY made it out of China.

Leaving China for the first time in over 15 months was definitely a moment. Didn’t have too much time to think about it, though, as touts quickly surrounded us wanting to change our money and drive us to our next destination. Arriving in Vietnam was almost as stressful and annoying as leaving China. But it has since gotten much, much better.

Last Week in Chengdu!

IMG_1620 - Version 2

So, before we start on this whole new adventure, I wanted to wrap up our time in Chengdu with a post about our last week here. I mentioned last time that these few weeks have been a total emotional roller coaster, but the last few days have definitely been the most intense. I’m excited, sad, stressed, and relaxed all at once. It really depends on the moment.

The “Wood Place”

Hey y’all.

Didn’t want to entirely abandon my blog this week, but truthfully not too much has been going on with us. After a jam packed CNY vacation we did a few days of recovering before the reality that we’re leaving SUPER soon started to really kick in. Since then we’ve been trying to get our sh*t together and get ready to go!

Hello! Kev and I just got back yesterday from spending 3 days in our good friend Rita’s hometown for Chinese New Year. We have been so incredibly busy this holiday season but it has been a whirlwind of fun times and good memories.
