Xin Nian Kuai Le!

I’m writing from the speed train on the last leg of our journey back to Chengdu. We have had a busy morning full of travel but we’re about an hour away from finally being home! We’ll have a few hours this evening to unpack, rest, and repack before we have to leave again tomorrow morning for our friend Rita’s hometown. We’re SO excited to spend some time with Rita and her family for the holiday but it will make for another busy week for us! Thus, I cannot get behind on blogging!

Happy New Year!!

Today is the eve of Chinese New Year day. Kevin and I are in Guilin getting ready to have a family-style traditional New Year dinner with the hostel folk. We did this last year at Mama Naxi’s and had a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to tonight especially since it means we don’t have to go out in the freezing cold to find dinner. The weather took a turn for the worst out of nowhere yesterday and I am not enjoying it. We went from wearing short sleeves a few days ago to being uncomfortably cold in multiple layers today. And we’re in the south! I’m scared to see what the temps are like in Chengdu when we go back tomorrow. But I bet all of y’all on the east coast aren’t exactly feeling sorry for me– I heard you’re getting hammered with a serious snow storm today, no?

Yangshuo

Good morning, everyone! I’m writing from my hostel in Yangshuo, one of the most beautiful places we’ve been to in China! I wrote last time about our hectic day of travel from Chengdu to Yangshuo. It was all worth it, though, as we haven’t been stressed in the slightest since we arrived. It has been an incredibly relaxing week.

No Kidd Inn- Yangshuo

Hi y’all. I just wanted to leave a real quick post on on our hostel, No Kidd Inn, in Yangshuo. We booked 2 dorm beds which cost us 200RMB for four days. 25RMB (4USD) per bed per night is fairly cheap and budget friendly, especially around the holidays. No Kidd Inn is located on a small street right off the Li River and on the opposite side of the Old Town from the bus station, so it was a good 10 minute walk for us to arrive there.

Chengdu to Yangshuo

It is with great relief that I announce that we have finally arrived in Yangshuo!

Today has been an extremely hectic day for Kevin and I. We have been trying for ages to make it out to the Guilin area but train tickets and hostels alike keep selling out before we’ve gotten it together. This time we were on the ball, or so we thought, and went to get tickets 10 days out. Still, they were already gone.

Smoggy Days

Hey y’all, sorry if you’ve had any trouble with my comment box/captcha situation– I’ve gotten several emails/comments about it this week but it should be all updated and good to go by now! For a blog with little traffic we have been bombarded with spam, so we’ve had to take measures to fight back. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Chengdu Hotpot

Hey friends & fam! I think I’m finally ready to start writing about the present again after having spent months talking about all the fun stuff we did when my family visited. I’m glad we were able to get all of that written down as those were some of my favorite memories of my time in China. However, time is FLYING by and I have to use these next few weeks to write about all things Chengdu before we leave!
