Last Week in Chengdu!

IMG_1620 - Version 2

So, before we start on this whole new adventure, I wanted to wrap up our time in Chengdu with a post about our last week here. I mentioned last time that these few weeks have been a total emotional roller coaster, but the last few days have definitely been the most intense. I’m excited, sad, stressed, and relaxed all at once. It really depends on the moment.

Heeeeeeeeey neglected blog of mine! Apologies- last week I was way too preoccupied with being stressed about my demo lesson for the parents to update. To the point of panic, actually. It was a bit ridiculous. I definitely need to work on my stage fright/fear of being judged in the near future. It has gone beyond normal jitters and is bordering on disabling. I am just discovering all of my weaknesses here in China, aren’t I? Fun!

Halloween

I thought I’d interrupt my western Sichuan momentum briefly to throw up some pics of Halloween before it gets too far in the past! I managed to grab some photos from my work that are too precious not to share.

Teachers’ Day

kc6

So, this week I wrapped up my little modeling gig. It was fun, and the money was great, and I’m glad I did it. Thanks for the kind words regarding my pics! I’ll leave you all with a few more before I end this incredibly vain photo-fest. THAT SAID I’m kind of glad it’s finished. I’m not really model material, and I felt pretty uninspiring for the photographer. Some of his ideas were a little uninspiring for me as well, and there are some pictures I’m slightly embarrassed to have floating around the interwebs (see: jumping pics). In the end I think I learned a thing or two, and hopefully they’ll sell a dress or two. It was a good experience.

Halfway Done!

Hello all! Happy June! I’m feeling very cheery about the beginning of June for a couple of reasons. The biggest one is that I’m exactly halfway done my contract this week! 6 months down, 6 to go! It’s not that I dislike my job or my current situation so much that I’m counting down as much as I just can’t believe it’s been 6 months.. It’s not the beginning anymore! Weird. I am a teensy bit psyched to finish my contract, though, because if we decide not to stay for another year that means it’s time to take some time off and travel! So exciting! Also, the second half of the year will likely be much more exciting than the first. We have 2 big holidays coming up where we can get away, and 2 weeks paid vacation we still have to take. So one month of that 6 we won’t even be working. We also have family coming to share some of that vacation time, which we’re so looking forward to. Plus, we have friends now, which makes the time pass much quicker. So, happy June indeed!

Missing Home

Ugh, this week has been a bit rough. For the first time since we arrived I have been feeling pretty homesick. It’s the beginning of summer and all my friends are getting ready for fun in the sun. I can’t even remember the last time I saw the sun. Many of my friends are graduating and I wish I was in Knoxville to see them walk. I also can’t believe it’s been a year since I graduated and I miss college. Significant things are going on with my family as well that I wish I was around for. And my brother is coming home this month, and it has been over a year since I have seen him. I’m only writing this post because this is also a part of the expat experience and it’s just as real as all the exciting times. Just know that I miss you all at home!
